Heterogeneity and the origins of asthma
2018, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :Airway and peripheral eosinophilia are often seen with TH2-high disease. These patients often are atopic and have specific allergens that can trigger their disease.10 Steroid responsiveness is an important feature of the TH2-high endotype.
Synergistic Environmental Exposures and the Airways Capturing Complexity in Humans: An Underappreciated World of Complex Exposures
2018, ChestCitation Excerpt :To be clear, there is of course no doubt of the importance of single exposure models that provide evidence for efficacy. However, the point is to be aware of the pitfalls of same as we further appreciate how large the immune and inflammatory changes can be when additional common exposures are integrated.37 To the extent that we are aware of these pitfalls, our emerging knowledge may (as suggested earlier) be leveraged to patients’ benefit.
Importance of the leukotriene B4-BLT1 and LTB4-BLT2 pathways in asthma
2017, Seminars in ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :SR asthmatic CD4+ T cells produced the lowest levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and IFN-γ levels were the lowest in cultures of SR asthmatic CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Importantly, CD8+ T cell expansion, especially in SR asthmatics, was unaffected by inclusion of a corticosteroid in the cultures compared to CD4+ T cells, supporting their role in steroid-refractory asthma [1]. Although LTB4 was initially described as a major chemoattractant for myeloid leukocytes [5], LTB4 was shown several decades ago to bind to a small proportion of human peripheral blood T cells [37].
