Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of organic compounds in the atmosphere, mainly derived from volatile thick-ringed hydrocarbons produced during the incomplete combustion of organic materials such as coal, oil and wood. PAHs are carcinogenic and mutagenic (Delgado-Saborit et al., 2011; Pashin and Bakhitova, 1979; Straif et al., 2005; Wang et al., 2021). The list offered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), which concludes 16 priority PAHs created in 1976, has become a global standard for measuring the severity of environmental contamination (Andersson and Achten, 2015).
