One-hundred and seven consecutive patients undergoing bronchoscopy for suspected pulmonary infection were included in this study. Assessment included history, clinical examination, chest image studies, CRP, procalcitonin (ProCT), leukocyte counts, and BAL results. Patients were classified as having proven, possible, and non-bacterial infection.
