Diving with self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) has become a popular recreational activity in children and adolescents. This article provides an extensive review of the current literature.
Conclusions: Medical contraindications to SCUBA diving for adults apply to children and adolescents, too, but must be adapted. Additional restrictions to the fitness to dive must apply to both, children and adolescents. Children should always be accompanied by a trained adult when diving.
