“Haemoptysis due to pulmonary venous stenosis.” Silke Braun, Ivan Platzek, Klaus Zöphel, Matthias Weise, Martin Kolditz, Michael Halank and Gert Hoeffken. Eur Respir Rev 2014; 23: 170–179.
The following sentence on page 172 of this article is incorrect: “In cases of haemoptysis due to pulmonary venous stenosis the expectorated blood is deoxygenated and, therefore, usually darker compared to haemoptysis with offspring of the systemic bronchial arteries”.
In fact, pulmonary venous blood is oxygenated yet the expectorated blood in the case of pulmonary venous stenosis is mixed with the bronchial venous blood due to the hindered drainage of both circuits and, therefore, less oxygenated compared to the bronchial arterial blood.
